Northern Ireland's Charles brothers decide it in Tbilisi

Pierce Charles saved a second-half penalty from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, then Shea Charles struck in the 99th minute to give Northern Ireland their first ever Nations League away win. Michael O'Neill had two brothers at the centre of it, and he did not hide how much they drove the result.

Pierce Charles keeps Georgia out

O'Neill called the pair "brilliant" after the match, and the praise for Pierce was direct. "The two boys were brilliant. I thought Pierce played extremely well, not just his distribution but he makes a big save in the second half as well," he told the BBC.

Pierce Charles finished with four saves and a 7.88 rating, but the biggest moment was the stop from Kvaratskhelia's penalty. Georgia had their main attacking threat on the spot, and Northern Ireland came through a phase that could easily have swung the night the other way.

Shea Charles finishes the job late

Shea Charles was the other standout. O'Neill said, "Shea was colossal, not just on the ball but I felt physically, his ability to step past people, the amount of time he was fouled and the referee for some reason didn't want to produce a card despite the number of fouls on him. I thought he was fabulous."

The numbers fit the description. Shea Charles was Northern Ireland's top-rated player at 8.2, took five shots and won nine of 11 duels. Trai Hume supplied the assist for the winner, and Shea's finish gave Northern Ireland a result that had been within reach but still needed someone to take it.

Shea also said, "I always back Pierce. He's done really well to save it and make a few other a really good saves. It's credit to him for the win."

O'Neill said the result sets Northern Ireland up really well for the Hungary game on Monday, and they go into that fixture at Windsor Park with a first Nations League away win already banked.
